Solar Energy UK presents “Solar Energy: Route to Net Zero”

Solar Energy UK
Immediate release
21/04/2021

Launching November 2021 – Solar Energy UK and ITN Productions Industry News will be co-creators of a news-style programme, exploring the vital work being done in the solar energy sector and the new technologies increasing efficiency.

Solar energy has come a long way in the last decade. By 2030, Solar Energy UK expects that technology improvements will treble capacity, with 10-15% of all electricity in the UK coming from a solar source as well as being a major source of energy for electricity production in a large part of the world.

Solar Energy: Route to Net Zero will address common misconceptions, highlighting affordability, accessibility and scalability. In the lead up to COP26, the programme will explore multiple angles of the market and the impact it is having on the race to net zero, biodiversity and the sustainability agenda.

From solar parks to the commercial rooftop market and retrofitting in the residential space, the programme will explore the innovative technologies and applications emerging within the industry and will showcase solar energy’s role in power supply, heat and transportation.

Anchored by an ITN Productions presenter, the programme will premiere at COP26 in Glasgow in November 2021 and will combine key sector interviews, informative news items and sponsored editorial profiles from organisations addressing some of the fundamental challenges facing the industry today. The programme will form part of an extensive communications campaign featuring Solar Energy UK members and professional partners.

Chris Hewett, chief executive of Solar Energy UK, said: “The story of solar in the UK is one of success, of resilience and of pioneering innovation. We are thrilled to be partnering with ITN Productions to tell this story, not just in terms of what has happened to date, but also to look towards a bright future with solar playing a significant role in the UK’s energy mix.”

Nina Harrison, head of industry news, ITN Productions, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Solar Energy UK to produce a programme which will help to inform, inspire and connect UK businesses and individuals with the solar energy sector and raise further awareness of the greenest energy source available in the UK while looking forward to a more sustainable energy future for all.”

This announcement comes on the same day that the UK Government is tabling legislation for a target 78% cut in carbon emissions by 2035 compared to 1990s levels, bolstering the case for ambitious action to increase the deployment of solar energy technologies.
