There’s a place for everyone in solar

7 November 2025

This Green Careers Week, we’re shining a light on the people behind the panels and the growing opportunities that solar energy is creating right across the UK.

The transition to clean energy is accelerating. The UK Government recently announced that the boom in renewables will bring thousands of new jobs, with roles in clean power generation, transmission and storage expected to rise sharply over the next five years. For solar, this means growth at every level, from installers and engineers to project managers, data analysts, communicators, designers and educators.

Building a Future for All

At Solar Careers UK, our mission is to make those opportunities visible, accessible and inclusive. The platform connects jobseekers, training providers and employers, helping to build a skilled workforce ready to deliver the UK’s ambition of 60GW of solar energy by 2030.

But building the workforce of the future is about more than just filling vacancies, it’s about ensuring that every individual, whatever their background, can see themselves represented in this sector. That’s why Solar Energy UK has developed an Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Toolkit, offering practical step for organisations to create fairer, more welcoming workplaces.

By improving representation, accessibility and support within our industry, we not only strengthen the solar workforce, but we also spark innovation, creativity and resilience across our sector.

“The solar energy industry is one that’s open, ambitious, and driven by people from all walks of life. We’re committed toward building a diverse and skilled solar workforce of the future, demonstrated by providing the toolkits for business and championing stories to inspire” – Sturge Mazzocchi, Head of Solar Careers UK.

Stories That Inspire

Our colleague Rachel Hayes, Head of Consents and ESG at Solar Energy UK, was recently featured in PV Magazine’s Women in Solar+ Europe series, sharing her journey in renewable energy and her belief that “there really is a place for everyone in solar.”

Rachel’s story reflects a truth we see every day: the solar industry thrives on diverse experience. Whether you’re a graduate exploring your first steps, a designer with an eye for sustainability, or a community engagement professional helping bring projects to life — your skills matter.

Powering the Next Generation

As the UK moves toward net zero, the need for skilled, motivated people has never been greater. The clean energy transition will be one of the defining challenges and opportunities of our time. Through Solar Careers UK and our EDI Toolkit, we’re helping to make sure that opportunity is open to everyone.

This Green Careers Week, explore how you can build your future in solar and help shape a brighter, fairer, low-carbon Britain.
