Solar industry welcomes COP26 Presidency and Business Secretary announcement

Solar Energy UK has welcomed the news that Alok Sharma is set to take on the COP26 Presidency full-time, and the decision to promote Kwasi Kwarteng to Secretary of State of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.1

Solar Energy UK Chief Executive Chris Hewett said: “This news indicates that the Government recognises that COP26 is a major opportunity for the UK to lead the charge on global climate change efforts. We wish Mr Alok Sharma the best of luck and offer our support in making this a success.

“We have developed a good working relationship with Mr Kwasi Kwarteng during his time as Energy Minister, and we look forward to continuing this to maximise the UK’s solar potential over the coming years. We congratulate him on his appointment.

Solar Energy UK also extends a warm welcome to Anne Marie Trevelyn, who replaces Kwasi Kwarteng as Energy Minister.
