Solar Energy UK welcomes CfD reform plans

Solar Energy UK
21 February 2025

Solar Energy UK warmly welcomes the consultation on the Contracts for Difference (CfD) Allocation Round 7 (AR7) by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). This consultation marks a critical step in advancing the UK’s renewable energy ambitions and underscores the government’s commitment to a sustainable, low-carbon future.

“Solar energy is a cornerstone of the UK’s transition to net zero, and we are pleased to see the inclusion of measures that support the growth of the solar sector, most notably a proposal to grant more leeway for commissioning times, and to extend contract periods beyond 15 years. The consultation provides an opportunity to refine the CfD mechanism, ensuring it remains fit for purpose and continues to drive investment in clean energy infrastructure,” said Chris Hewett, Chief Executive of Solar Energy UK.

We look forward to engaging closely with DESNZ and other stakeholders to ensure the final framework maximises the potential of solar power, delivering affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy for households and businesses across the UK.
