SynchroStor is an engineering R&D business founded in 2017 with the express purpose of developing a cost-effective grid-scale energy storage technology using pumped heat. The SynchroStor concept is based on the Brayton loop with a number of proprietary innovations which offer improved round-trip efficiency, lower capital investment and predictable O&M costs. The system is modular with installed power ratings in 1MW increments and storage depth in the 8hr – 48hr range. The system can be co-located with generating assets to maximise export revenue; behind-the-meter to offer a range of value propositions to heavy power users; or as a stand-alone system offering ancillary grid services.
