Britain sets solar record as households take control of energy bills

New government figures published today confirm a record year for solar deployment, as households and businesses across Britain respond to the energy crisis by generating their own power.[1]

The data shows 269,000 solar installations were completed across the UK in 2025, 37% more than the year before, and the highest ever recorded in a calendar year.[2] More than 95% were rooftop installations. Installation costs have also fallen by up to 9%.

Solar Energy UK’s Chief Executive Chris Hewett said:

“These figures confirm what our members have been seeing on the ground: demand for solar is at an all-time high, and Britain’s households and businesses are responding to the energy crisis by taking control of their own power bills. Nine of the ten strongest months for solar deployment on record have happened in the last year alone. Solar is the fastest way to shield families from the next fossil fuel price spike, and these numbers show the public knows it. The industry is ready to go further and faster – delivering for households through the Warm Homes Plan and pushing forward to Clean Power by 2030. The question now is whether grid connections can keep pace with that ambition and how we get more batteries to accompany the panels to take full advantage of deployment.”
