Solar Energy UK response to UK Green Taxonomy Consultation

Solar Energy UK welcomes the opportunity provided by HM Treasury (HMT) to respond to the UK Green Taxonomy consultation. As the voice of the UK solar industry, we strongly support the development of a robust, science-based taxonomy that accelerates investment in renewable energy and aligns with the UK’s net-zero ambitions.

Solar power is a cornerstone of the UK’s clean energy transition, offering scalable, cost-effective, and rapidly deployable solutions to decarbonise electricity generation, heat, and transport. A well-designed Green Taxonomy will provide much-needed clarity to investors, drive capital towards sustainable infrastructure, and reinforce the UK’s leadership in green finance.

We commend the government’s commitment to creating a framework that recognises the full value of solar energy—not only in reducing emissions but also in enhancing energy security, creating jobs, and delivering affordable energy to consumers. We urge policymakers to ensure that the taxonomy reflects the latest technological advancements, supports innovation, and facilitates the swift deployment of solar and storage solutions at scale.

Solar Energy UK looks forward to engaging constructively with HMT and other stakeholders to shape a taxonomy that unlocks the potential of solar energy and accelerates the UK’s path to a net-zero future.
